Writing Process
Students practice writing through the writing process. They start with a topic, use a word web to record ideas, put the ideas into a rough draft, read it aloud to review it, edit their own writing, write a final draft, and publish it in their writing binder. We will do special class writing throughout the year. Students will try to write independently daily in Work on Writing during Daily 5.

Hamburger Style Paragraph
Students will learn my "trick" to write a paragraph.  They create a topic (top bun), add 3 detail sentences (meat, ketchup, pickles), and end with a closing sentence (bottom bun).  I've found this is a fun method and is easy for the kids to use on their own during the year.

Students will be learning lowercase cursive letters first. Then, they'll learn uppercase letters.  They'll practice writing cursive to learn and improve letter connections when writing words in sentences. The school is using a new style of handwriting now. We are using a program called "Handwriting without Tears" which will look very different from what we were taught.
